Capt'n Jim hails from Maryland. He has had two simultaneous careers; one in Broadcasting and one as a Reserve Officer in the Army.
Capt'n Jim began his broadcast career in High School as a PA announcer for the High School football games. He went on to own his own station and with a partner did a two man Morning Show for over 35 years. He sold his station and retired from full time broadcasting in 2003.
He was commissioned a 2LT in the Army on June 6 1960. He served for more than a total of 35 years, on Active Duty in the Signal Corps, served in the US Army Reserves and finally the State Guard before retiring as a Colonel in 1997.
Captain Jim came to Dr Champion on the recommendation of his PCP and had gastric by pass surgery Feb 13, 2003 He lost a total of 112 pounds and has held his weight to within 10 pounds of his lowest weight loss record. Now three and a half years out Captain Jim says he faces the same challenges everyone does but through exercise and post surgery support has redirected most of his bad habits. Capt'n Jim says, "It is still an every day struggle because the surgery is merely a tool and not a cure. Everyone should know this going in. I feel WLS has been successful for me but I tried to follow the rules, keep my doctor's appointments and most of all send in my meds from long distance. Dr. C has always been a mere phone call away when needed."
"Would I do it again? Absolutely!"
