Meet Bariatric Surgery Patients The Fabers
About 4 years ago, my husband Michael and I were severely obese. We had tried, as many do, to lose weight with various diets, health clubs, exercise and nutritionist. In each case we had some successes, but never lost all of our weight and what weight we did lose we did not manage to keep off. Each time we had lost weight we gained back the weight we lost, plus gained even more. Over time Michael had almost reached the 400lb mark and I was very near 300lbs.
We live in Savannah, Georgia and had been hearing about laparoscopic by-pass surgery to lose weight, but it seemed so far out of reach to us at that time. However, a friend of ours who was extremely obese heard of a fabulous surgeon in the Atlanta/Marietta Georgia area, who was specializing in this particular surgery and was having great success with his patients, and after performing this procedure on them, experienced no post op problems. Our friend did go to Atlanta to have the procedure done. When he came back and showed us 6 little band-aids on his abdomen, Michael asked him to give us th4e name of the surgeon. Our friend told us that the surgeon was Dr. JK Champion.
Michael and I did some research on-line about Dr. Champion and found out about him and his practice. His website was factual and straightforward. We called Dr. Champion’s office for an appointment. His entire staff was most courteous, friendly and most helpful. We went to Marietta and met with the office staff and Dr. Champion. We were very impressed about the pre and post surgical information that Dr. Champion imparted. We also found out about the notional information, surgical expectations, follow-up programs, and what we should expect the surgery to accomplish. We more importantly learned that the patient has a prime responsibility to adhere to the life/food./eating changes that will take place.
Michael had his surgery in November of 2001 and I had my surgery in March of 2003. He has lost over 200lbs, and has lost 120lbs. We have both maintained our weight since.
The main purpose of this article however is not about Michael or me, but about our wonderful surgeon. Dr. Champion and his entire staff, have the highest level of standards. He has one entire wing of the hospital dedicated to him and his patients, where he performs surgery. Every patient MUST sign a contract with Dr. Champion, stating that they will follow ALL of the post-op responsibilities set forth BEFORE Dr. Champion will agree to perform the procedure. His office staff is ALWAYS there for you whenever you call or if you have any problems or just need to discuss something. His record of successful surgeries is outstanding! He is ALWAYS continuing to upgrade the standards, which have ALWAYS met or exceeded the Bar of Excellence for Bariatric Surgeons.
Dr. JK Champion has not only changed the focus of our eating and food choices…he not only changed our lives…he not only gave us new vitality and health…he not only changed our bodies-all the above for the BETTER…But, indeed, he gave us whole NEW lives!
Without Dr. Champion (and in the opinion of Michael and myself, there is NO BETTER surgeon or more wonderful than Dr. Champion). I do not believe that Michael would be alive today. As for me, I was on my way to diabetes. I was already suffering from asthma, bad knees, bad back, acid reflux, sleep apnea and catching bronchitis several times a year. Today, my husband and I travel the world; we have walked the Great Wall of China, climbed to the top of The Dhali Lama’s Palace in Tibet, and in short, fully embrace all of life. BEST OF ALL, we will live to see our grandchildren grow up and now, while they are little, have the energy and vitality to play with them!!! What a miracle!!!
Thank you Dr. Champion
Michael and Paulette Faber
