Planning for your surgery
Atlanta is a three-hour drive on North I-85 from Montgomery. If you prefer flying, there are several flights from Montgomery Airport to Hartsville-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The Videscopic Institute is in Marietta, a city in northwest Atlanta. We will be happy to make travel arrangements or recommend lodging and restaurants. We are within a short drive from the antique shops and tea room on Marietta Square, the charming eateries in Vinings and exciting hot-spots in Buckhead. Atlanta is a shopper’s paradise. There are several nearby shopping malls, including Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza in Buckhead, Town Center Mall in north Marietta and Atlantic Station.

When planning for bariatric surgery, Montgomery patients should estimate a one-week stay in Atlanta. On Monday before your surgery, you will get a review of the pre-operative process, an evaluation from Dr. Champion and go to Northside Hospital for pre-op testing. Surgeries generally occur on Tuesday or Wednesday. Although hospitalization time may vary, LapBand® patients generally stay for 23 hours while gastric bypass patients remain 48 hours. After gastric bypass or LapBand® surgery, Montgomery patients should rest and not travel for 72 hours.
