Planning for your surgery
Atlanta is about a four-hour drive on interstate highways from Savannah. If you’d rather fly, there are several flights from Savannah/Hilton Head Airport to Hartsville-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The Videscopic Institute is located in Marietta, twenty-miles northwest of downtown Atlanta. We will gladly make travel arrangements and recommend lodging and restaurants in our vicinity. The Videoscopic Institute is a short drive from the tearoom and antique shops on Marietta Square, the charming bistros in Vinings and lively night-spots in Buckhead. Atlanta is a shopper’s heaven. There are several nearby shopping areas, including Buckhead’s Phipps Plaza and Lenox Square, Town Center Mall in Marietta and Atlantic Station. And, if you or your guests are looking for fun activities, there’s Stone Mountain Park, Six Flags Over Georgia, the Georgia Aquarium, Zoo Atlanta and Centennial Olympic Park.

When making your plans for bariatric surgery, Savannah patients should anticipate a one-week stay in Atlanta. On the Monday preceding your surgery, you will get receive an overview of the pre-operative process and a consultation with Dr. Champion at our office, then, pre-op testing at Northside Hospital. Surgeries are generally scheduled for Tuesday or Wednesday. LapBand® patients usually stay hospitalized for 23 hours while gastric bypass patients are observed for 48 hours. After gastric bypass or LapBand® surgery, Savannah patients should refrain from travel for 72 hours.
