Planning for your surgery
Atlanta is about 1 ½ hour drive northwest on Interstates 475 and 75 from Macon. If airplanes are your preferred mode of transportation, Delta flies from Middle Georgia Regional Airport to Hartsville-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. And, there are Atlanta’s many fun activities, such as Stone Mountain Park, Six Flags Over Georgia, the Georgia Aquarium, Zoo Atlanta and Centennial Olympic Park.

When planning your schedule for bariatric surgery, Macon patients should assume a one-week Atlanta stay. On Monday of your surgery week, you should go to our office to review the pre-operative process with our bariatric nurse then meet with Dr. Champion for an examination. Later that Monday, you will go to Northside Hospital for pre-op testing. Surgeries usually occur on Tuesday or Wednesday. After surgery, LapBand® patients usually have a 23-hour hospital stay. Gastric bypass patients typically stay for 48-hours. After gastric bypass or LapBand® surgery, Macon patients should abstain from travel for 72 hours.
